I was fortunate some years ago to have an art tutor that emphasized two things that have stayed with me. The first concept was “What have you got to say?” and to find what it is you have produce something. A choice of exploring one thing over some other thing is significant in itself. A body of work ‘speaks back’. The second concept he emphasized is “Truth”, to be truthful to oneself and the subject matter.
